Let’s Help Prevent Eye Diseases & Vision Problems

Eye exams help your optometrist detect eye disease and vision problems before they can compromise your eye health and visual acuity.

Not all eye diseases have obvious symptoms in their early stages, but they can reach a point where they can threaten your vision permanently. At West Hollywood Optometric Center, our eye doctors know how to uncover hidden signs of eye problems and take action while there’s still time to protect your sight. We also update prescriptions and can help you find sharp new glasses or comfortable contact lenses.

Let experienced professionals care for your eyes. Schedule your next exam with us today.

When Should People Have Eye Exams?

We perform eye exams for adults, seniors, and children over 8 years old. Younger children may benefit from seeing a pediatric optometrist until they reach this age, after which the American Optometric Association suggests you have your eyes examined:

  • Once a year until age 18
  • Once every year from ages 18 to 65
  • Once a year after age 65

Just remember: you might have eye issues that require extra attention and might need to see an eye doctor more often. To make sure you get all the help you need, we’ll set up a custom exam schedule for you after your first few appointments.

The Eye Exam Process

Most eye exams typically last from 30 to 60 minutes unless extra tests are required. If we plan on keeping you longer, we’ll let you know before the exam so you can plan ahead.

Your eye doctor will probably begin your exam by discussing your medical history with you. They might also ask about your family history and whether you’re using any medications. Before they move on to examining your eyes, you’ll also have a chance to tell them about any eye concerns you have.

The tests we run provide us with several pieces of important information, such as:

We also conduct a thorough assessment of your overall eye health, looking closely at your:

If we see any eye diseases or vision problems indicators, we’ll tell you right away and provide you with appropriate options. Then we’ll update your prescription so you can replace your eyeglasses or contact lenses if need be, and let you know when to come back for any required follow-up appointments.
